Nabadwip a place of Religious- Learning- Historical and birthplace of Sri Chaitanya

Nabadwip  is a city and a municipality in Nadia district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Its name means "9 islands" in a Bengali term. The 9 islands are Antardwip (Sri Mayapur), Simantadwip, Rudradwip, Madhyadwip, Godrumdwip, Ritudwip, Jahnudwip, Modadrumdwip, and Koladwip. It is a place of many lilas (or "pastimes of God" in Hinduism) of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Many pilgrims from origins worldwide adhering to Gaudiya Vaishnavism come to Navadwip every year on pilgrimage and for festivals like Sri Navadvipa-mandala Parikrama and holidays like Gaura Purnima. Tourists from all over the country come to Nabadwip for religious expeditions. Buses survice available from Kolkata  to the Nabadwip township. There are special services provided by the ISKCON into the adjoining region of Krishnanagar. Trains from the Sealdah Railway Station can be boarded, which stop at the Nabadwip Station. The airports at Kolkata ( domestic and international) are the nearest to the region.

Nabadwip was the capital of Ballal Sen and later Lakshman Sen, the famous rulers of the Sena Empire, who ruled from 1159 to 1206. In 1202, Nabadwip was captured by Bakhtiyar Khilji. This victory paved the way for Muslim rule in Bengal. Nabadwip was a great center of learning from the very beginning. For five centuries, it was also called “Oxford of Bengal
Nabadwip is geographically situated at the convergence of the Bhagirathi and Jalangi rivers. The Bhagirathi has shifted its course and after that Nabadwip which was earlier located on its eastern bank can be seen on the western bank. The place of Nabadwip constitutes the birth place of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Sri Chaitanya is considered as one of the greatest reformers and religious heads of the region. Sonargouranga, the famous temple holding the golden statute of Sri Chaitanya is the prime attraction in the premises of Nabadwip. Besides Sonargouranga there are a number of temples worth visiting in the town. The Royal Palace, known by the name of Rajbari witnesses a large number of visitors, especially during the festival of Jhulan Mela. Some other attractions include the Roman Catholic Church, College Bhavan, Public Library, Krishnanagar Academy and the Protestant Church. The main festival of Nabadwip is "RASH UTSAV". It is also known as "Pat Purnima" or "Rash Kali Puja" or "Shakta Rash". The varieties of Baishnaba, Shakta, Saiba Pratima (Idols) attracts every one. The Rash Utsav is like national festival of the inhabitants of Nabadwip.
